Pinkbike's 2022 Mountain Bike of the Year
"This is a bike that could be used to head out for a big meandering backcountry adventure one day, roll up to the starting line in a local enduro race the next, or even head into the bike park for a lap or three without missing a beat."
Editor's Choice: Best Mid-Travel Trail Bike
"The burliest, most versatile, and most capable Fuel yet; truly up for whatever you want to ride [...] The updated geometry sits comfortably amongst today's best trail bikes [...] Absolutely shreds right out of the box."
"Our favorite Trek"
"Fuel EX proved itself a happy climber. From slabs to roots and square-edge hits, the Fuel EX handled it masterfully. A damn fine trail bike right out of the box, no matter your riding style."
"Fuel EX is a masterpiece"
"Fuel EX absolutely devours chunky terrain while still retaining the ability to tractor up steep climbs. I have become convinced that a bike with long, stable geometry and mid-level travel really can provide the best of both worlds."
Editor's Choice

"Loves to ride fast, both up and down"
"Fuel EX is a highly adaptable bike that feels comfortable in a really wide variety of terrain but doesn’t confuse itself for anything more or less. Bike riders, rejoice."
"Ready for anything"
"Fuel EX's geometry feels ready for just about anything. There's plenty of traction for climbing and a nice fluttery feel on descents, calmly smothing out the trail chatter."

Product features
Internal Storage
Internal frame storage makes it easy to ditch the pack and still carry your ride essentials.
Active Braking Pivot
Active Braking Pivot allows our engineers to tune how the suspension reacts to acceleration and braking forces independently. That means you get more confident control when you need it most.
Slack or steep, the choice is yours
Install angle adjust headset cups (sold separately) to tweak the 64.5-degree head tube angle a degree steeper or slacker to your liking — all without impacting your bottom bracket height.
Adjust the sus for full send
Adjust leverage rate with just a flip of a chip. Ride it in the Less progressive setting for a plusher feel perfect for rugged trails with square-edge bumps. Flip it to More progressive when you're hitting big features and don’t want to bottom-out, or when you want to run a coil shock.
Size-specific stays
Size-specific chainstays provide balanced handling to keep the ride nimble for smaller riders and improve front wheel traction on climbs for taller riders.
Business in the front, party in the back
Craving the nimble ride of 27.5˝ wheels but don’t want to sacrifice the speed of a 29er? No need to choose. Fuel EX is mullet-ready, just throw Mino Link in high, toss on a 160mm fork, and get ready to party.
Shimano XT
Shimano XT is the original mountain bike groupset and trusted by generations of mountain bikers around the world. Whatever the trail, wherever you ride, XT is your solution for mountain biking today. Reliable shifting. Superior braking. Intuitive maintenance. XT is the high performance workhorse you can count on.

New frame, new possibilities
Forward-thinking frame design opens possibilities for riders who want full customization. A bigger seat tube lets you roll with a beefier, longer dropper post, and broader shock compatibility plays well with tons of aftermarket shocks, including coil.

Mino Link adjustable geometry
Fine tune head tube angle by 1/2° and BB height by up to 10mm with the simple turn of a nut. Just flip the link to choose between slack or slacker geometry, without negatively affecting suspension performance. A Trek exclusive.
Threaded bottom bracket
More robust than pressfit, threaded BBs hold up in nasty conditions and make servicing easier.
On guard
Two-piece dual-density bolt-on down tube guard protects from rock strikes and shuttle damage — all the while quieting the ride with a beefy chainstay guard.
ISCG mounts
International Standard Chain Guide mounts offer easy chain guide installation and adjustment.

How tall are you?
To measure your height, stand straight up, barefoot, with your back, heels, shoulders and head all touching a wall. While looking straight ahead, place a book or straight edge on your head and slowly push it against the wall. Your straight edge should be parallel with the floor. Mark the spot where the bottom of the book is touching the wall. The distance from the marked spot to the floor is your height.
What is your inseam?
How to measure: Stand barefoot with your back straight and against a wall. Tuck a ruler or something that extends to the floor between your legs. Using both hands, and keeping it level, pull the ruler up into your crotch as if you were sitting on the saddle. Measure the distance from the top edge of the ruler to the ground to find your inseam measurement. Your inseam is very important to your final bike size so please measure carefully.
