The CrowdStrike outage, the Change Healthcare hack, and the resulting nightmares make me question the path that we are all hurtling toward in healthcare. More and more buyers of technology want to get away from point solutions in favor of larger platforms. As those larger platforms gain greater market share and become ubiquitous, do we risk a greater frequency of such crippling events?

The images of Donald Trump bleeding is the symbol of our country’s untenable divisiveness. Where are we going? What are we doing? I am glad that Trump survived this assassination attempt and hope for the best for the two attendees who are badly injured. Aside from the deranged shooter, one person is dead Can we as Americans band together now? I am so afraid for the rest of 2024.

Biased post alert! I discovered these pictures on my dearly departed brother's - Arnab Chanda - phone after he passed away from Stage 4 kidney cancer in November 2017. The pics were from a year prior when he was working at NVIDIA and traveling with CEO Jensen Huang, CFO Colette Kress (and some others I am guessing) while battling that disease. Even folks at Nvidia didn't believe him when he predicted that such a day as today - when Nvidia became the most valuable public company in the U.S. bypassing Apple and Microsoft - was in the company's future. When he joined Nvidia, the stock was trading at less than $1 if memory serves me correctly. But he had followed the company as a Wall Street analyst for years prior and considered Jensen a genius. I didn't know Jensen until he spoke at Arnab's memorial at Stanford but felt grateful that Colette and Jensen never put Arnab on medical leave even when he couldn't go to work and even after they hired a replacement - he remained a full-time employee till the end. Arnab would have been so proud today, as I imagine are so many employees around the world. Professionally, I am very curious to see what Nvidia powers in healthcare with its heft in machine learning and computer vision. https://lnkd.in/gJuNzhim

Reading about the free luxury travel that Justice Clarence Thomas accepted from his friend multiple times reminded me of an important policy in the newsroom at the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette back in the day when I got my daily newspaper experience under editor Craig Klugman. If someone sent you flowers for telling their story well, you had to take those flowers, walk across the street and give them away at the local hospital. If it was a breakfast or lunch event that we were covering, the newspaper would pay for our meal. I think the newspaper strongly believed that even an appearance of conflict should be avoided at all costs. At MedCity, I remember turning down an airline upgrade from a source-turned-friend when we were both on the same flight and the befuddled look on his face when I politely declined. I am not being holier than thou - all journalists are trained on conflict of interest and taking gifts. I wish the Justices were as well. It is such an integral part of American democracy.

Everyone stays away from politics on LinkedIn, but today I will buck that trend. I am very encouraged by election results in the country of my birth, India. It shows that you can only win so much by dividing people, by jailing the opposition, by hurting journalists and minorities, by trolling on social media and most importantly by adopting anti-democratic behavior and policies. Last week four startups were selected by judges at our annual INVEST conference as winners of their pitch tracks. The Biopharma track award went to miRecule, Inc.; Devices/Diagnostics was won by CoraVie MEDICAL; samaritan snagged the Payer/Provider track and Mother's Milk is Best Inc won the Consumer/Employer award.
