Last month, a cohort of 10 #TTUHSC students from the schools of Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions and Population and Public Health, accompanied by faculty members, participated in an enriching international program in Piura, Peru. The educational initiative facilitated by the TTUHSC Office of Global Health prepares future health care professionals for the complexities of a globalized world. During their time in Peru, the group was hosted by Olive Branch International, an esteemed organization dedicated to serving resource-challenged communities in #Peru. The program included immersive experiences where TTUHSC students engaged in various health care activities, including training community health agents, providing clinical care for underserved and homebound community members and delivering mental health education. Beyond the clinical aspects, the program also emphasized cultural immersion. Students engaged directly with the local culture, enhancing their intercultural communication skills and fostering a greater appreciation for global mindedness. Overall, the program was designed to broaden students' perspectives and reinforce their roles as global citizens.
